Özet
The study focuses on developing alternative spatial solutions to change dominant social housing production model of the Housing Development Administration based on prototype projects, through the evaluation of Istanbul Kayabasi 24th District Social Housing Settlement, completed in 2018, in tandem with the production of urban space in such residential areas. The settlement, selected as case study, is an actual example of the administration's attempt for alternative solutions for social housing policies. It is possible to assume that the case has potential to prevent spatial problems of large-scale social housing settlements according to decisions to be taken during the planning and design process. Certainly, assuming all problems of social housing settlements to be solved via architectural spatial organizations will present a naive approach. It is challenging to evaluate multidisciplinary and multilayered spatial phenomena only by considering physical characteristics. On the other hand, this fact does not prevent the production of knowledge on the subject through historical and theoretical framework the studies of architecture and design. Therefore, this study aims to contribute to the field of knowledge from the discipline of architecture through evaluations on physical spatial dimensions of the case.
