The oldest copies of our Academy Library — with their period paper, typesetting and stamps, as-is.
Most of the foreign-language books on art and architecture were acquired for teaching when the institution was still the State Academy of Fine Arts. These are not the choices of a private collector, but the sources studied by the professors who taught in this building.
The library, which began with the Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi (School of Fine Arts), is one of the oldest art libraries in the country. The collection is therefore not merely a set of old books, but a record of the sources on which art education drew.
The stamps and ownership marks on the copies are the evidence of this journey; they are noted in the copy note of each record.
Each work is evaluated individually under Turkish Law No. 5846. The criterion is not the publication year but the year of the author’s death; the protection term is seventy years after death.
