Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry is in a rapid progress all over the world. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an important technology for industry players in order to compete in such a competitive market. The benefits provided by BIM implementations such as effective design, construction, improved coordination, monitoring and management processes are game changers in the global construction industry. Starting with the developed countries, the adoption of BIM is increasing all over the world since the idea of information technologies has come to existence. However, despite all the benefits of BIM, implementation stage carries multiple risks, in particular for new adopters. BIM implementing companies face various problems which may occur during the implementation stage stemming from issues such as "lack of previous experiences and feedbacks through the industry", "lack of technical knowledge and skilled personnel", "challenging costs for start-up", "lack of uniform standards", "collaboration and interoperability inefficiencies", “legal liabilities and responsibility issues” and “determination of contracting strategies”. These challenges are key barriers in the way of a successful BIM implementation for each industry player in global construction market. Through the same perspective, Turkish AEC industry is facing challenges of BIM implementation during construction stage. In the present study, a literature review was conducted and findings were used to generate questions to be discussed in the semi-structured interview with professionals who have taken part in Istanbul Airport project. Then, the interview findings regarding BIM implementation problems on production phase are discussed and compared with literature findings. Further needs for investigating the implementation problems for Turkish construction firms and possible solutions in order to overcome these problems are indicated at the end of the study.en_US
