FELSEFE İLERLER Mİ?

Abstract

Felsefenin ilerleyip ilerlemediği sorusu sıklıkla felsefe ve bilim arasında bir karşılaştırmaya dayanarak ele alınır. Öyle ki bilimin ilerlediği apaçık kabul edilir ve felsefenin de eğer ilerliyorsa bunun ancak bilime benzerliği sayesinde olanaklı olduğu düşünülür. Bilim ile kast edilen de genellikle kuramsal fiziktir. Bu yazıda bilimin ilerleyip ilerlemediği sorusunu ele almadım. Felsefenin ve bilimin aynı ölçütlere göre değerlendirilmesinin gerekliliğini de sorgulamadım. Ancak söz konusu karşılaştırmada yaygın olarak bir çifte standart uygulandığını belirtmek istiyorum. Göstermeye çalıştığım literatürde önerilen ölçütlerin her iki alana da tutarlı biçimdeuygulanması durumunda birinin ilerlemediğini söylemenin tek yolunun diğerinin de ilerlemediğini söylemek olduğu. Ölçütün kullanılmasındaki bu yaygın çifte standardın temelde bilim ve felsefe eğitiminin yapısından kaynaklandığını öne sürüyorum.

The question of whether or not there is progress in philosophy is often discussed based on a comparison of philosophy with science. Such that the progress in science is considered obvious, while if philosophy does make any progress, such progress is thought to be possible only through its similarity to that of science. Science in this context usually refers to theoretical physics. In this article, I do not discuss whether science makes progress. Neither do I question whether it is necessary to evaluate philosophy and science by the same criterion. However, I want to argue that there is a double standard in the application of the supposed common criterion. What I tried to show is that if the criterion offered in the literature is applied consistently to both fields, the only way to say that one does not make progress is to accept that the other also fails to make progress. I also argue that this wide spread double standard is caused by differences in the structure of science and philosophy education.
