dc.description.abstractTHE INFLUENCE OF THE EUROPEAN ART ON AMERICAN ART AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY In the Period of New Classisim (end of 18. century and 19. cent) John Singleton Copley and Benjamin West had historical themes. The French artists who came to America after the Revolution brought The French Influence. At the end of the 19th century Winslow Homer, Thomas Eakins and George Inness were the most important painters. The Eight was set up in 1913. Except the founder Henri, William Glackens, Everett Shinn, Joan Sloan, George Lucks, Arthur B Davies, Ernest Lawson and Maurice Prendergast were in the group. Later this group was called Ash Can Schooll. At the beginning of 1900 s those painters went to Europe and have been influenced by Manet, Bonnard, Renoir, Cezanne, Seurat and other impressionists. Prendergast was influenced by Carpaccio. Later Alfred Stieglitz opened the gallery 291. Here Matisse, Toulouse-Lautrec, Rousseau, Picabia, Severini, Picasso was exhibited, and American Art was influenced largely by them. Arthur B Davies organized the Armory Show in 1913. There Delacroix, Ingres, Goya, Corot, Courbet, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse and Picasso were exhibited first time in America and their influence has been immense. The movement Dada has been influential in America with the arrival of Duchamp and Picabia in New York. Especially Man Ray, Morton Schamberg, John Covert, Charles Demuth and Sheeler were influenced. In Europe fovism, expressionism, cubism, futurism were formed. Surrealism influenced America in the Thierties and during the 2nd World War. Max Ernst, Andre Masson, Tanguy, Miro, Picasso, Dali immigrated to America and influenced Abstract Expessionists and Pop Artists.en_US
