Abstract

THE PROBLEMS OF CERAMICS IN THE URBAN DESIGN AND PROPOSALS OF SOLUTIONS Beginning from 1970's, there is a remarkable increase in the usage of ceramics in the architectural environment and public places of todays urban areas. Certain systematica! programs are being established for the reconstruction of the urban areas and this was one of the reasons of this rebirth. The approaches of acquiring an identity to the urban areas and taking every item as the complementary and directional part of it have been widely broadened. The first support that opened the gates of the city for the ceramic material was caused by the laws for allowing art pieces to take place in public places. The synchronizing in reaching a technical perfection for ceramic materials and prroven to be suitable for ecological conditions have increased the popularity of this material. This is followed by public attendance programs, that are supported by iocai governments and private institutions. In such activities the idea was to establish a population which protects and owns their environment that they have been living in. In these activities especially elementary school children are targetied because the aim was to raise new generations those gained public consciousness, appreciate the environment and al! the items that constitutes of it and protect it. Also in our country, in order to Artistic works and ceramic materials take place within the urban design, taking under new reconstructions, new law rules for establishment of the infrastructure and new programs to develop a supportive public concious.
