The Ministry of Environment and Urban Development wants to convert the ancient Side habor marina into a yacht habor. This initative we consider dangerous. Many years ago, in 1969, the Ministry of Tourism and Information designed a competitive-called the Side and Tourism Planning International Project Competition-to develop the ancient city of Side and its surrounding area. The first prize winner for the region was given to EPA Achitects Group and this group proposed a Master Plan to use in and around the Coast of Side. This plan included the coastal region 14 km in length around the ancient Side harbor. The proposed plan suggested: a) the design of the Manavgat delta, b) a yacht harbor in front Titreyen gol, c) daily resort facilities at the pier in Sorgun, d) a secondary yacht port in Sorgun, e) the ancient side port should be restored and developed as a fisherman's port f) to build small piers on the east side of the project. The Ministry of the Environment and Urban Development's initative should not be accepted because it can destroy the historical ancient Side harbor. Although the EPA Architects Group's project was prepared 44 years ago, its suggestions are still current and should be followed.en_US
