The effect of the legal arrangements on the istanbul bosporus landscape areas and european landscape convention as an opportunity for restructuring

Abstract

The industrialization, advances of technology and urbanization effects brings out the extreme and unconscious use of the limited natural resources. The concept of protecting the natural resources has gained importance since 1960s thanks to the legal arrangements and regulations issued in international platforms. For Istanbul Bosporus, which has unique natural and cultural riches, the protection efforts, starting from 1950s and continuing, has not been successful since it has not been in an integrated manner and the area has been destructed by visual and ecological means. Under this declaration, the effects of the legal and administrative decisions related to the conservation of Istanbul Bosporus area shall be assessed by means of Bosporus landscape and matter of turning the respective developments, due to conclusion of European Landscape Convention, to an opportunity for conservation planning and management of landscape areas is discussed.
