We investigate theoretically a driven dissipative model of strongly interacting photons in a nonlinear optical cavity in the presence of a synthetic magnetic field. We show the possibility of using a frequency-dependent incoherent pump to create a strongly correlated v = 1/2 bosonic Laughlin state of light: Due to the incompressibility of the Laughlin state, fluctuations in the total particle number and excitation of edge modes can be tamed by imposing a suitable external potential profile for photons. We further propose angular-momentum-selective spectroscopy of the emitted light as a tool to obtain unambiguous signatures of the microscopic physics of the quantum Hall liquid of light.en_US

We are grateful to E. Macaluso for continuous fruitful collaboration on Laughlin physics and in particular for bringing Ref. [21] to our attention. Insightful exchanges with M. Hafezi and J. Simon are also warmly acknowledged. R.O.U. acknowledges TUBITAK for having been supported through the BIDEB 2232 program. This work was supported by the EU-FET Proactive Grant AQuS, Project No. 640800, and by the Autonomous Province of Trento, partially through the project On silicon chip quantum optics for quantum computing and secure communications. I.C. acknowledges the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics, University of California, Santa Barbara for hospitality and support during the early stage of this work.en_US
