The research project commissioned by the Greater Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (GIMM), Settlements and Urban Transformation Directorate, and the İstanbul Urbanism Atelier aims to:

Review neighbourhood regeneration concepts and practices in the UK and other selected EU countries to identify methods for programme development and implementation tools that may be relevant to Istanbul. Outline actions that GIMM could take to build on its experience so far in developing a strategy and investment programme for the phased regeneration of older, poor-quality housing areas (and other neighbourhoods at risk from earthquakes), which will: Reduce the risk of earthquake damage in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
