| dc.description.abstract | Throughout the history, symbols has been emerging in all eras and at all scales with various appearances and functions. Sometimes the meanings and functions of the symbols are obvious and some-other-times the symbols present a potential ofa key that needs to be subjected to more comprehensive studies. Symbols bear significance, as objects and concepts in themselves. Then again, accumulation of emotional, intellectual, ideological, anthropological, religious and political references equally bears significance, again, in itself. It is more than fair to daim that the role of symbols in daily life, their origins, stylistic qualities and semantic transformations constitute an inseparable part of cultural history. CULTHIST '13 Cultural History Conference aimed at bringing the cultural history into the agenda with a holistic approach in contact with all branches of the study of history. The conference will underline the heterogeneous, multi-layered quality and will focus on historical and geographical interactions of cultural focal points. It is planned to reveal the correlations in between the cultural history and other disciplines, under the specific title of "Symbols in the History of Art and Culture". Within the scope of the conference many presentations on different fields, periods and regions with respect to the symbols in cultural life and the symbolic understandings of each component of the culture has given. In addition to historians, CULTHIST '13 was open for participation by experts from different fields like sociology, psychology, anthropology, political science, archeology, urban and design history. CULTHIST'13, hosted by MSFAU (Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) has been organized from 24th to 25th of October, 2013, by DAKAM (Eastern Mediterranean Academic Research Center). / Efe Duyan | en_US |
