Welcome to y-BIS 2013: Joint Meeting of Young Business and Industrial Statisticians

On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, we are delighted to welcome you to Istanbul. The second meeting of y-BIS (Young Business and Industrial Statisticians of the International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics) is being held in this unique city, the meeting point of two continents—Europe and Asia.

y-BIS 2013 is sponsored by the International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics (ISBIS) and the European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics (ENBIS). Its aim is to bring together young statisticians and professionals from both academia and industry. The conference offers excellent opportunities to network, share scientific and professional experiences, and foster new collaborations. The program covers a wide range of research areas in business and industrial statistics.

The program includes four keynote speakers, two short courses, and over 30 invited and contributed papers. We extend our sincere thanks to all speakers, particularly the keynote speakers and the invited paper session organizers, whose contributions greatly enhanced the scientific quality of the conference.

Young statisticians—defined as those within five years of their last academic degree—are invited to compete for the Best Paper Award.

Selected papers presented at the conference may be published, following peer review, in a Special Issue of Quality and Reliability Engineering International, associated with y-BIS 2013 and ENBIS-13. All submissions must meet the journal’s publication standards and will undergo a standard, expedited refereeing process.

The program also features social events designed to help participants get acquainted, experience Turkish culture and history, and enjoy the renowned Turkish cuisine and hospitality.
